Dear Members,
Below is our November Range Construction Update.
Table of Contents
Reminder: Range Closure Effective 11/18/2023
As a reminder, the rifle range is closed after 11/17/2023. The land was sold and beginning 11/18/2023 we do not have permission to be on the range.
Anyone, member or otherwise, using the rifle range without permission from the new owner after November 17th, 2023 will be trespassing on private property and subject to the laws and penalties governing our state at the sole discretion of the new land owner.
Unfortunately we were not permitted to take the shooting benches or roof to re-purpose on the new range, however we do intend to have benches built as well as a roof similar to what we currently have.
November 17th Range Construction Update
Overview
The new construction is progressing well. The roads are in, the parking area is almost complete, and there is good progress being made on the pistol and rifle ranges. Fortunately the weather has generally been cooperative. Unfortunately at this time we can’t cite opening dates for the ranges, but will communicate with everyone when those dates are known.
Here is a diagram outlining the new range locations, high-level plans and where the access roads are to the ranges.
Below is an overivew & update of the club’s property.
- The Green is our land which is just over 133 combined acres.
- The Red is the parcel we previously used for the rifle range, but was recently sold that we lost access to effective 11/18/2023. We never owned this land, but were permitted use from the prior owners. We are no longer permitted to use this land.
- The Yellow is a small parcel we recently sold which was 5.26 acres.
Pistol Bays
The new pistol bays are coming along well. The bays will be ~50 feet wide & 125 feet deep. Our side berms will be about 10 feet tall, similar to our action pistol range with backstops at about 20 feet tall.
As you will be able to see below in the progress photos, as of November 17, there is only a few feet of the backstop needed to close off the bay and then final grading for the side berms.
The Board has discussed and is aligned that we will allow rapid fire on these bays once complete. We have a growing membershp base that particpates in IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge and are also the home range for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program. All of these disciplines require athletes & competitors to shoot rapidly and we’d like to make sure our facilities are able to be used for this base of our members to be able to practice.
The club will provide target stands similar to the below on each of the bays. The stands are designed to hold targets 18″ wide, which is standard for action pistol targets. Members will be able to affix their targets to these sticks. It will be our recommendation that you bring backer cardboard that is 18″ wide or wider to staple or clip to the sticks if you are going to use paper targets. We believe this system will be better than the prior snow fence or plywood we use to have which got shot up, made a mess, and didn’t allow members to choose their own shooting distance.
Here are some progress photos from November 17th, 2023 of the Pistol Bays.
Rifle Range
Our rifle range has cleared a space to start building the East side berm. As you can see in the photo we have some good progress here with berms being started and the range itself being cleared.
Our new rifle range will be close to 150 yards deep and a very comparable width to our old range. We intend to have target distances at 50 yards, 100 yards and 150 (or max depth).
We will continue to have benches, a roof and target backer boards at the aforementioned distances.
Donations to support the New Range Costs
This move will be costing our club approximately $75,000 to build a new access road, remove trees, build new berms and add other amenities like benches and roof to the new range.
We are asking any members that would be willing to donate to the club to help offset these costs to please do so. We are able to take donations online or from mailing a check.
