Nationals Match Results

The CUW shooting sports team had a successful showing at the Scholastic Action Shooting Program Collegiate National Championships amid rainy conditions and stiff competition.

The best individual performance came courtesy of senior Nathan Fingeroos(Cedarburg, Wis.) in the pistol caliber carbine event, as he took third place overall with a time of 37.92.

As a team, the Blue and White also shined in the pistol caliber carbine event, as the team comprised of seniors Hank Bell(Saukville, Wis.), Nathan FingeroosAndrew (AJ) Theisz (Lake Geneva, Wis.), and Alexander Steiner (Kewaskum, Wis.) recorded a score of 171.39, snagging second place overall.

This squad also claimed fourth overall in the iron rifle, recording 197.23 points.

Meanwhile, the rimfire pistol event saw the Blue and White take sixth place with a total of 358.66 points while freshman Acoya Hotchkiss (Waukesha, Wis.) led the Falcons on the individual level in the rimfire pistol with a time of 62.71 seconds.

Nathan Fingeroos also led the flock in the centerfire pistol, taking seventh overall with a time of 52.54 seconds, and in the optics rifle event, finishing at 36.96 seconds. Fingeroos also took sixth in the centerfire pistol optic, claiming sixth overall with a time of 48.17 seconds.

The Falcons also placed fifth in the optics rifle event as a squad, scoring 171.09.

Another top-five finish came in the rimfire pistol optic, as Concordia Wisconsin’s squad amassed 223.17 points, locking up fourth place. CUW also secured fourth place in the centerfire pistol optic with 261.22 points.

To wrap up the spring season, the Falcons will return to practice and compete in the USA Clay Target Virtual League from April to May.

Valentine’s Classic Competition

The CUW shooting sports team performed well in the Valentine’s Classic Virtual competition, securing several high finishes across different individual and team events.

In the centerfire pistol optic, the Falcons claimed first place as a team as the squad comprised of senior Nathan Fingeroos (Cedarburg, Wis.), Andrew (AJ) Theisz (Lake Geneva, Wis.), junior Mason Schulteis (Kewaskum, Wis.), and senior Hank Bell (Saukville, Wis.) finished with a score of 205.24.

Individually, Nathan Fingeroos took first in the men’s division, registering a time of 43.81 seconds.

Meanwhile, in the centerfire pistol, that same squad claimed another first-place finish with a total score of 245.31 points. Like the previous event, Fingeroos also led the Blue and White, compiling a time of 51.63 seconds. Also in the top 10 was Mason Schulteis at 58.11 seconds, while Hank Bell recorded a time of 64.16 seconds, good for seventh overall. Behind Bell, Andrew (AJ) Theisz was in eighth place, with a time of 71.41 seconds.

Conservation Easement

The club is looking into creating a Conservation Easment with a portion of our land. If any members have experience with this, or are attorneys that would be willing to assist & support our club with investigating this, please reach out to us at info@saukvillegunclub.com.

Bay A & Bay B are Open!

We are happy to announce that the two forty yard bays, Bay A & Bay B, are now open and have benches for your use.

Bay A & B are 40 yards deep. You can shoot pistol, rifle or shotgun in the bay. Please pick up your shells, especially if shooting shotgun.

To access the range, you can use the entrance by our archery range or from the parking lot near our pistol house. The road to the range by our pistol house will be closed when we have bullseye pistol, trap, skeet or 5-stand going on as that road is downrange from those shooting activities, so the entrance by the archery range would be the only open road.

Be aware, until the construction is complete and we have a opportunity to complete final grading, seeding and simlar, the area will be muddy. Please plan accordingly when planning footwear, clothing, etc. to come to the range.

We have placed some target stands in both Bay A and Bay B for your use. See our December newsletter which shows these stands. It is recommended you bring 18″ wide (or wider) cardboard or similar backing to staple to target stand sticks to hang your target. Please don’t shoot the sticks as these are needed for all members to use.

Rifle Range Update

We are currently estimating completion by the end of April pending weather.

About half of the range and berms are built and topsoil is covering half. The other half still needs to be dug out and that dirt will be used to finish building the berms and backstop.

Our new rifle range will be close to 150 yards deep and a very comparable width to our old range. We intend to have targets at distances of 50 yards, 100 yards and 150 (or max depth). We will also have benches and hope to have a roof reinstalled as soon as funds allow.

While rapid fire is permitted in the two new 40 yard bays A & B, we won’t be able to support rapid fire in the rifle range, once complete, for safety reasons. At ~150 yards, the muzzle elevation change required to point above the berm is very minimal relatively and we need to make sure we don’t have shots leaving the range. Rifle shooting in the pistol bays is permitted so those seeking practice may use these bays up to the 40 yard distance.

Donations to support the New Range Costs

UPDATE: We’ve received just under $15,000 in donations from members to help support the costs of the new range construction. This has gone a long way in helping our club cover the costs of this construction. A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that has contributed!

This move will be costing our club approximately $100,000 to build a new access road, remove trees, build new berms and add other amenities like benches and roof to the new range.

We are asking any members that would be willing to donate to the club to help offset these costs to please do so. We are able to take donations online or from mailing a check.

Donations online can be made by clicking here:
https://saukvillegunclub.com/shop/product/range-construction-donation/

Please note: Donating by mailing a check, especially for any large donations, is preferred due to avoiding processing fees from online payment processors.

Please make out and mail any donation checks to:

Saukville Gun Club
P.O. Box 13
Saukville, WI 53080

Please note the purpose of the check in the memo field or with a note that it is to help with range construction costs.

We sincerely apprecate a donation of any size to assist with large outflow of cash we will have to cover these expenses.
